HAKLUYT'S 2022 REFIT PLANS
Hakluyt is a purpose built sailboat designed to endure the rigors of high latitude sailing and remote exploration

Hakluyt's 2022 Refit plans
This is going to take some work...
Our plans are ambitious by any measure. We have a lengthy list of things we both "need" to do and "want" to do. Two essential ingredients are required to get our list checked off: time and money. We are in short supply of both - so 2022 will be dedicated to essential safety upgrades and upgrades that will reflect our core environmental and health conscious values.

Perhaps the biggest and most exciting upgrade will be the complete removal of anything "diesel" onboard. Yep, you read that right - goodbye Yanmar diesel. One hundred and ten horse powers are finding pastures elsewhere. Hakluyt will endeavor to be 100% electric. In 2022 the 110hp Yanmar will be replaced with two Oceanvolt 15kW electric servo prop engines. The diesel fuel tanks, lines, filters, transmission, lead acid batteries and prop shaft will all be replaced with a robust Lithium Iron Phosphate battery bank.

Hakluyt will carry over 110 kWh of energy storage which is one of the largest battery banks on a sailing vessel of our class to date. This will allow Hakluyt enough power for backup propulsion when sailing into extremely remote places. Her electrical system is self contained and designed to regenerate her energy via solar, wind, and super effective power regeneration (think 2 massive alternators) through the twin servo props while under sail.

Below are some CAD renderings of Hakluyt demonstrating her new paint scheme, logo, and twin Oceanvolt servo prop motors.
