Almost ready to go

Updated: Dec 23, 2022

Hi everyone

first of all we would like to apologize for not keeping you updated over the summer. We both have been terribly busy and simply had no time. Wes spent most of the summer in Lewisporte Newfoundland to work on the boat and put around 2000 hours in to get her ready as soon as possible. “As it always is” everything takes much longer than you think and the original plan of having her in the water in August didn’t work out. BUT she is probably the sexiest boat on the ocean with the most awesome galley (so grateful for this!) and two super quiet powerful electric motors.

“As it always is” our project sucks up more finances than we anticipated and I spent my summer renovating my place in Manitoba to get the most out of the sale. I sold it in October and just arrived here on time for Hakluyt to go in the water on November 8.

Happily reunited we are working on some small changes and improvements and already did 2 sea trials which both turned out awesomely. The Oceanvolt motors are fantastic and she sails smoothly and effortlessly.

We had to put the old sails on because our brand new Ulman sails will be delivered to Maine where we will pick them up on our way south.

Yes, we will be leaving soon!!! Despite the cold weather and warnings from some people we decided to take the chance. We have great support from very experienced master mariners who will help with weather predictions and route and monitoring our journey.

Here is the plan:

If the weather prediction stays as is we will leave between the 25th and 27th of November. The first stop will be Twillingate, where we plan to spent the night on a government warf. It will take us about 8 hours to get there. Next stop will be Caramanville, then Bonavista, Old Perlican to St. John’s. In St. John’s we will meet Wes’ friend Tim who will be joining us for a week to support our first crossing over to Nova Scotia. Tim will fly back home from there and we will continue our journey to Maine, then from New York over to Bermuda. this will take us about 6 weeks to 2 months. It may very well happen that we get stuck somewhere due to the weather which is part of the adventure and we are looking forward to explore some new places on the journey.

And we will finally have more time for you guys! Promised! We are planning to create a youtube channel so you can not only read about the journey but also see what we are up to! If you would like to follow our current adventure location in real time follow the link below:

You might need to zoom in to get a closer perspective of our location.

And I want to share a new recipe with you:

Gluten Free Garlic Buns

two cups almond flour

one cup tapioca flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

a dash of salt

8-12 cloves of garlic

just enough water to make a thick dough (about 1/2 cup)

add more flour if too liquide

put 4-6 dollops of the dough on a baking sheet with parchment paper and bake for 25-30 min on 380º F

This is so delicious and we are currently addicted to it!
